The Use of Metallurgical Coke as Carburizing Material in the Foundry

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Original scientific paper The properties of metallurgical cokes obtained in a laboratory from pure coal and with additives (light atmospheric residue of oil distillation and coal tar pitch) after heat treatment to 1600 °C were investigated. Changes in the basic characteristics (density, moisture, ash, metal and sulphur contents) were examined. Crystallographic parameters (crystallite size, Lc and interlayer spacing, d002) and surface morphology were also determined. The results were compared to data on a commercial carburizing material used in foundries, known as “Karbina”. The metallurgical coke produced by mixing coal and coal tar pitch is good for thermal conversion to a semigraphitic structure at higher temperatures (1600 °C). Because of this and its physical-chemical characteristics the material is recommended as a suitable carburizing material.

Thermodynamic Simulation of Gas Carburizing of Steels

Simulation of metallurgical processes has been the subject of intense research due to the reduced number of experiments required for controlling the process as well as time and energy savings it allows. In gas carburizing of steel parts, the amount of carbon at the surface of carburized parts is the most important specification of the process in terms of achieving the desired metallurgica...

Recycling Evaluation of Mill Scale in Electric Arc Furnace

A considerable amount of mill scale is generated from steelmaking plants annually. Although some industries use it as raw material however, since it contains iron in the form of FeO, Fe2O3, and Fe3O4, it can be considered as a valuable metallurgical raw material for iron and steelmaking industry as well. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility, efficiency, and consequences o...

Mixtures of steel - making slag and carbons as catalyst for microwave - assisted dry reforming of CH 4

The use of steel-making slag as catalysts for microwave-assisted dry reforming of CH4 was studied. Carbon materials (an activated carbon and a metallurgical coke), mixtures of carbon materials + Fe-rich slag and mixtures of carbon materials + Ni/Al2O3 were tested as catalysts. Mixtures of slag with carbons gave rise to higher and steadier conversions than those achieved over carbon materials. T...
